At Global Girl Project, we believe gender equality is not something we simply promise. It is something we must practise, resource, and protect every day. That means giving power, trust, and sustained investment to girls from the Global Majority who have long been excluded from leadership and opportunity.
If we’re serious about equality for women, girls and gender expansive people, we must rethink how power, knowledge and leadership are defined globally.
The resignation of Dr Halima Begum has reignited urgent questions about leadership, power, and accountability in the charity sector. This article explores how women from the Global Majority are too often placed on a glass cliff. Expected to fix systemic crises without the structural support needed to succeed. It argues that true transformation requires reimagining leadership itself, by learning from collective, care-centred models long practised by the Global Majority.
Too often, girls in the Global Majority are funded only to survive, not to lead. In this article, Jules Lynch, Founder and CEO of Global Girl Project, calls for a radical shift in the charity sector: investing in girls’ power, leadership, and long-term influence. She challenges outdated funding models rooted in colonial and racial inequities and urges donors to trust and resource girl-led change. Survival is not enough. Girls deserve the opportunity to thrive, lead, and transform their communities.
In the interview, Jules Lynch reflects on the spark that led to the creation of Global Girl Project a bold response to the lack of leadership opportunities for girls in the Global Majority. She highlights how girls in marginalised communities are already driving change and explains why investing in their leadership is essential to true gender equity.
